HEALTH OUTREACH & CHARITY FAIR 0.1

The World Humanitarian Day 2018 did not pass without recognition as the Health Volunteers Naija worked in collaboration with House of Annie J Foundation while also partnering with some other organizations; Medglobe Volunteers, Haima Health, Warrior Story Ng, Sickle Cell Aid Foundation (SCAF) & Universal Volunteers to host a massive Health Outreach & Charity Fair.

Idi-Araba community is one of the many areas of Lagos with an explosive population, most living below the poverty line and consequently do not have the luxury to afford healthcare services, clothing and accessories as well as good food hence the need to reach out to this community in the best way possible.

Takuro Street, Idi-Araba was the venue through which humanitarian aid was delivered to the Idi-Araba community on this day from the hours of 12:00 Noon to 5:30pm. The Idi-Araba community was really happy as beneficiaries were able to get access to healthcare services and household items all for Free.

This outreach provided Free consultation with medical doctors, Free medical check up, Free therapeutic body massage, Free Know Your Genotype, blood drive for the Sickle Cell Foundation, Food, clothes, shoes, bags and other household items were also given out for free! Top of it all is the donation of hygiene kits to 100 beneficiaries.

As the event went on, the team also did a street to street campaign to bring more beneficiaries on board who will take advantage of the free humanitarian aid. Here, team members spoke in Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and pidgin English across all streets to ensure our message has been adequately delivered.

In total, 125 persons were attended to by our medical team, over 400 persons were beneficiaries of the free clothes, shoes and other personal items. 100 persons got food and drinks to go with and as well, the hygiene kits to 100 persons cannot be overlooked. What a great day!

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Beatrice, spoke on behalf of the Idi-Araba community. She thanked the team for counting them worthy of the humanitarian aid. She also buttressed that she was highly impressed as she had to call two of her grand children who also came to check their genotypes for free; an exercise they had not been able to afford for years.

The resultant happiness in the community is a memory to behold. The World humanitarian day 2018 has come and gone but the impact delivered will last a lifetime in the lives of many.
